| I'm sad because college football is almost finish...I'm sitting here watching the Rutgers and WV game, in overtime...intense! I love football....I love college football. I love that USC LOSS to UCLA!!! YAY!!! I love how USC LOSS to Oregon St. several weeks back! YAY! I'm sad my 'Canes were not themselves this year. Trials and heartache and loss of a 'Cane leader-it was tough this season. But-my 'Canes will return. They always do. I hope Florida plays Ohio St. in National Championship--because who wants to see Ohio St. play Michigan-again! Let's see how Ohio St. plays with a TEAM from the SEC. My favorites this season: Ray Rice (Rutgers), Tom Zbikowski (Notre Dame), Reggie Nelson (Florida), favorite uniformS Oregon Ducks, Adrian Peterson (OU), Brady Quinn (Nortre Dame), Coach Greg Schiano (Ruters), Jeff Samardzija (Notre Dame), Percy Harvin (Florida), Coach Steve Spurrier (South Carolina), favorite pregame warm-up: University of Hawaii Warriors (it's called the haka), Coach Urban Meyer (Florida)...I will ALWAYS love the Gameday Crew: Lee, Kirk, and Chris--oh yeah, Reese and Coach Lou Holtz are good stuff too! Mark May...can't stand the dude--he's nothing without Trev!!! I miss Trev!...Dang it! It's now 3 OT-Rutgers have to score and get 2!...intense indeed, I love it!...who's taking Larry Coker's job? I hope not Schiano-he should stay in Rutgers-he can be like the future Joe-Pa...Spurrier just renewed at South Carolina...Barry Alvarez? hmmm...from Badger to 'Cane?? I don't know....does anyone know if Butch Davis is available? NO! He's not-UNC's new coach?-Great, another team Miami has to worry about!...dang, Rutgers losss, but that's okay, so did USC...heehee....brain----half time..... | | |
| Wow...now talk about MIA!!! I haven't been on here for over a year! Lets just call it a short brain hiatus! LOL! So...I'm on here now because I just read Sheila Mae's last entry and it made me realize how short life is without having things go unsaid or unwritten. I am a woman with a voice and not that I've been silent, I just haven't been using this tool of communication. This is where I've been lacking I guess, expressing my thoughts on paper (or here). So, lets have a new year's resolution starting today...get on xanga more often! The Loposkys are now in Phoenix, AZ! And amazingly enough, we like it here! There's no beach but there is something very nice about this city. It's busy and yet culturally inviting. There is so much to do AND they have pretty much every professional sport to get into! We went and watched our very first NHL (hockey) game and it was just out of this world! It was crazy fun! Talk about a way to vent! The fans are amazing and you can just act crazy among your fellow crazy people! LOL! I work for the Univesity of Arizona's alumni association. I'm enjoying it because my boss allows me to be creative and try things differently. Robert goes to Arizona State Univ (yes, rival schools here) and is in pre-nursing. So, life right now is pretty good. We're happy. It's isn't as stressful as it was living in Miami. Things are looking not so bad for the Loposkys! Okay...that's it for now...until then...stay classy world! | | |

Ethiopian girl reportedly guarded by lions
Authorities: Cats chased off men trying to force her to marry
The Associated Press
Updated: 6:25 p.m. ET June 21, 2005
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - A 12-year-old girl who was abducted and beaten by men trying to force her into a marriage was found being guarded by three lions who apparently had chased off her captors, a policeman said Tuesday.
The girl, missing for a week, had been taken by seven men who wanted to force her to marry one of them, said Sgt. Wondimu Wedajo, speaking by telephone from the provincial capital of Bita Genet, about 350 miles southwest of Addis Ababa.
She was beaten repeatedly before she was found June 9 by police and relatives on the outskirts of Bita Genet, Wondimu said. She had been guarded by the lions for about half a day, he said.
“They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” Wondimu said.
“If the lions had not come to her rescue, then it could have been much worse. Often these young girls are raped and severely beaten to force them to accept the marriage,” he said.
'Some kind of miracle' Tilahun Kassa, a local government official who corroborated Wondimu’s version of the events, said one of the men had wanted to marry the girl against her wishes.
“Everyone thinks this is some kind of miracle, because normally the lions would attack people,” Wondimu said.
Stuart Williams, a wildlife expert with the rural development ministry, said the girl may have survived because she was crying from the trauma of her attack.
“A young girl whimpering could be mistaken for the mewing sound from a lion cub, which in turn could explain why they didn’t eat her,” Williams said.
Ethiopia’s lions, famous for their large black manes, are the country’s national symbol and adorn statues and the local currency. Despite a recent crackdown, hunters kill the animals for their skins, which can fetch $1,000. Williams estimates that only 1,000 Ethiopian lions remain in the wild.
The girl, the youngest of four siblings, was “shocked and terrified” after her abduction and had to be treated for the cuts from her beatings, Wondimu said.
He said police had caught four of the abductors and three were still at large.
Kidnapping young girls has long been part of the marriage custom in Ethiopia. The United Nations estimates that more than 70 percent of marriages in Ethiopia are by abduction, practiced in rural areas where most of the country’s 71 million people live.

| This is a letter from a friend of mine who is in Iraq right now. He wrote this a couple years before he knew he was going. The worse thing about having a close friend there is not knowing how he/she is doing...I haven't heard from him since May 13th when he announced to his family and closest friends he finally got engaged!...All I can do is check my email everyday and pray he is safe when I don't hear from him...for this Memorial day, think of my friend and all of those out there & say a little prayer, it's the least you can do as an American....thank you!
All,
This goes out to many people. Waite G is the only name that appears b/c everyone else is Bcc. Some might think this is lame, and if you are one of them, then you should reevaluate your commitment to America. All of you know someone personally or a friend of someone who is gone or will be leaving soon. Those of you that think we are not or should not do something are fooling yourselves. I don't want to fight either, but it just may be necessary to do. You only have the luxury of complaining and questioning b/c you live in this country. The places we are at and are going to do not share that right of knowing the truth and having all the facts. You don't either right now, but at least you know you don't. I have to believe we would not be doing this if there wasn't a good reason.
Anyway, A good friend of mine from Hawaii who is now at Ft Sill is leaving soon, and his wife just sent me this poem. He is leaving her and his two young sons behind and does not even know where he is going yet. Please keep Doug and all of our other fighting men and women in your thoughts. It is easy to forget the freedoms you enjoy until you are the one that is fighting for them, and it is your family and friends who have to go through each day knowing your life is on the line far from home.
Got Your Back....
I am a small and precious child,my dads been sent to fight.. The only place I'll see his face,is in my dreams at night. He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track. I may be sad,but I am proud. My daddies got your back..
I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war.. My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before. Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black. I may be scared, but I am proud..My son has got your back..
I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go. There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know. I bite my lip,and force a smile as I watch my husband pack.. My heart may break, but I am proud..My husbands got your back..
I am a Soldier...Serving Proudly,standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call. I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks. Say a prayer that I'll come home. It's me whose got your back.
The last paragraph could be a Marine, Sailor or Airman just the same. I go to school with Air Force and Navy too. Another of my classmate's husband is on active duty at another base and he will be leaving as well. She had to take her small daughter b/c of this. These are not easy times we are living in, and even more dangerous times are just a heartbeat away. Some of the people this is going to are my classmates, and we complain almost daily of how bad school is. At least we are safe for the time being. I am not asking anyone to do anything or forward anything. All I ask is that you keep not only the members in your thoughts and prayers, but the parents, spouses and children they leave behind. It is not easy for any of us. I know with all the deployments that lots of people are leaving, but this is the first one of my close friends that I know is going. He is a veteran of Desert Storm, so I know he knows what to expect, but not everyone has that luxury. I remember when I was going to Bosnia. We were not even on the brink of war, but it was still very scary for me when I left and hard on my family and friends as well. Do what you want with this, but at least think about it. God Bless you all.
Jamie
